DECISION (EU) 2021/2084 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 24 November 2021 on the participation of the Union in the European Metrology Partnership, jointly implemented by several Member States
Following Regulation (EU) 2021/695 of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing the Horizon Europe Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, the European Parliament and the Council (EU) issued their Decision 2021/2084 of 24 November 2021 on the participation of the Union in the European Metrology Partnership, jointly implemented by several Member States.
European partnerships under Pillar II of Horizon Europe 'Global Challenges and the Competitiveness of European Industry' (Pillar II) should play an important role in achieving the United Nations Strategic Objectives on Sustainable Development, the Union's commitments under the Paris Agreement adopted under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the transition to a green and digital Europe.
The objective of this Decision is to ensure the participation of the Union in the Metrology Partnership in support of its general objectives by harnessing the excellence of national metrology institutes and specialised research institutes that is necessary for research and development of cutting-edge metrology solutions that transcend national borders and therefore cannot be achieved at national level.
As the administrative structure of EURAMET has proven to be efficient and of high quality for the implementation of the previous European Metrology Research Programmes EMRP and EMPIR, EURAMET will subsequently be used for the implementation of the Metrology Partnership and will manage the Union's financial contribution.
The decision entered into force on 1 December 2021.
