College of the Commissioners
The current body of the European Commission was approved by the European Parliament on 27 November 2019 and assumed its mandate on 1 December 2019, thus has started its five-year term. The president of the college, Ursula von der Leyen, made changes in the organizational structure of the EC and designated individual commissioners as heads of project teams responsible for a certain thematic portfolio. Details of the personnel composition of the EC, its way of working and the division of portfolios between commissioners are described on the EC website.
On 29 January 2020, the European Commission published the Work Program 2020, which is available here, the Commission's priorities are:
A European Green Deal – Europe aims to be the first climate-neutral continent by becoming a modern, resource-efficient economy.
An economy that works for people – The EU must create a more attractive investment environment, and growth that creates quality jobs, especially for young people and small businesses.
A Europe fit for the digital age – The EU’s digital strategy will empower people with a new generation of technologies.
Promoting our European way of life – Europe must protect the rule of law if it is to stand up for justice and the EU’s core values.
A stronger Europe in the world – The EU will strengthen its voice in the world by championing multilateralism and a rules-based global order.
A new push for European democracy – We need to give Europeans a bigger say and protect our democracy from external interference such as disinformation and online hate messages.
The European Commission continued its priorities in its Program for the year 2022. "Together we will strengthen Europe" is the main slogan of the European Commission's program for the year 2022. Despite the global pandemic, the EC managed to successfully follow up on the goals of the previous period by further deepening them within the six above-mentioned priorities.
